Privacy Policy

Zander's Picks is a hobby site where Zander reviews his friends' three favourite albums. It is not a business and it sells nothing. This policy explains what the site collects, who else sees it, how long it is kept, and how to have it removed.

What we collect

The “send Zander your top three” form. It asks for your first name, your last name and one to three albums, which you pick from search results. That is saved in the site's database for Zander to read in his private dashboard. Submissions are never shown on the public pages. Zander may use one to add you to the site, which would show your name and your albums publicly.

If you are listed on the site. The people on the site are added by Zander. Each listing shows the person's name, their three albums and Zander's reviews, publicly.

Album searches. What you type into the album search is sent from our server to Apple's iTunes Search and to MusicBrainz to find matching albums. They receive the search words only, not your name or your internet (IP) address. To limit how often the search runs, the site counts searches from each IP address for one minute, in the server's memory only; it is not saved.

Our host's logs. Railway, which hosts the site, keeps its own request logs, which include IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.

There are no accounts for visitors, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts. The fonts are served from this site.

What other services see

• Railway hosts the website and the database that holds the listings and the form submissions.
• Apple and MusicBrainz receive the words you search for, as above.
• Apple and the Cover Art Archive: in the form's search results, the small album covers load in your browser straight from Apple or from the Cover Art Archive, so they receive your IP address and browser details, as any website you load does. The covers on the rest of the site are served by this site itself.
• Apple streams the 30-second song previews. A preview loads only when you press play, and then Apple receives your IP address and browser details.

We will also disclose information if the law requires it.

Cookies and local storage

The public pages set no cookies and store nothing in your browser. The only cookie is Zander's sign-in to the dashboard, which is set after a correct password and lasts up to 8 hours.

How long it is kept

A form submission stays in the database until Zander deletes it. A listing stays on the site until Zander removes it. Search words are remembered for up to an hour so a repeated search does not have to ask Apple and MusicBrainz again.

Your rights

You can ask what the site holds about you, and ask for your submission or your listing to be corrected or deleted.

Zander's Picks has no email address of its own. If you know Zander, ask him directly. Otherwise, write to the site's developer, Obegi Software LLC, through the contact form at masonobegi.com/contact, and say that it is about Zander's Picks.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent a submission, ask for it to be deleted as described above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top.
